Five quick tips for networking at an event

(Check out my post How to Network like a Rockstar on OfficeArrow! This article gives online and offline networking tips. You can be a connector!)

Five quick tips for networking at an event

1.    Introduce yourself. If you’re by yourself and don’t know anyone else, find someone else who looks like they may be in the situation and introduce yourself to them.
2.    Find someone you know and ask them to introduce you to others. This way they’re making the connection and you’re instantly expanding your networking.
3.    Carry your business cards. If you don’t have business cards, get some.
4.    Carry business cards of people in your network. This is especially helpful if you know a freelancer or entrepreneur who is looking for business. You can just hand out their business card and be an instant connector.
5.    Be genuine. Nobody likes a sleaze. You’re not there to sell them on anything. You’re there to connect with them. There’s a really big difference between the two. Start there, and selling can come later.

  3. Nice post. Short and sweet. I would also suggest a small but helpful one I heard years ago… hold your drink in your left hand. That leaves you free to shake hands quickly, and also avoids the cold, clammy handshake that comes if you just had a cold drink in your hand. Small tip, but I’ve come to notice the people who don’t follow it. Definitely affects the first impression.

Thanks for the post. Be great!
